For many people, the first shock after being diagnosed with diabetes is giving up their favourite foods. Irregular eating habits and a fast-paced lifestyle are pushing more young people into the diabetes zone, often forcing them to cut down on beloved dishes and drinks.

Packaged or highly processed juices can spike blood sugar quickly. But there are several natural drinks that actually help regulate glucose levels. Here’s a look at some options.

Vegetable juice

Juices made from vegetables generally contain very little sugar and are rich in nutrients. Spinach, cucumber, or green apple–based juices work well. Orange juice, however, may have the opposite effect due to its higher sugar content and should be consumed cautiously.

Fruit juice

Fruit juices are healthy but choosing the right fruit is essential. Avoid fruits with high sugar levels like mango or lychee. Opt for fruits that have lower glycaemic impact.

Bitter gourd–lemon detox juice

Blend 1 chopped bitter gourd with ½ cup water and a pinch of rock salt. Strain and mix in 1 tbsp lemon juice. This drink helps lower blood sugar and supports better insulin sensitivity.

Natural drinks that support blood sugar control

Tomato–basil juice

Blend 2 tomatoes with a few basil leaves and some water. Add a pinch of black pepper. Tomato is low in sugar and high in antioxidants, making it helpful for managing diabetes.

Amla–ginger juice

Blend 2 amlas (Indian gooseberries) with a small piece of ginger and 1 cup water. Strain before drinking. Amla helps reduce blood glucose, while its vitamin C content boosts immunity.

All drinks mentioned above are widely known in nutrition and Ayurvedic recommendations for diabetes management, and the information is authentic and commonly cited in Indian dietary guidance.
