The arrival of the monsoon often inspires Delhi residents to head for the hills. Mist-covered mountains, greener landscapes and cooler temperatures make June one of the most attractive times for short escapes. However, this weekend's weather may force travellers to rethink their plans.

The latest forecast points to significant rainfall activity across several popular tourist destinations in North India. While the rains promise scenic views, they also bring the possibility of road closures, traffic delays, landslides and interruptions to outdoor activities.

For those planning last-minute trips, keeping a close eye on weather conditions could make the difference between a relaxing holiday and a challenging journey.

Hill stations prepare for a wet weekend

According to The Indian Express, many of the most sought-after destinations from Delhi are expected to witness persistent rainfall over the coming days.

Popular locations in Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala, are likely to experience frequent showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Uttarakhand, where travellers heading to Mussoorie, Nainital and Rishikesh could encounter wet roads and reduced visibility.

Further north, regions of Srinagar and surrounding areas may also witness scattered rainfall and thunderstorms.

Even travellers beginning their journeys from Delhi should be prepared for showers and gusty conditions that may affect highways and transport schedules.

Destinations that may offer a smoother trip

According to The Indian Express, for those still determined to travel, some destinations could prove more manageable this weekend.

Cities such as Jodhpur and Udaipur are expected to experience relatively lighter rainfall compared to the hill states. Their forts, palaces and heritage attractions also provide plenty of indoor sightseeing opportunities.

Closer to Delhi, Agra offers a convenient option for a short cultural break. Meanwhile, destinations like Bhopal and Amritsar may offer a better balance between pleasant weather and tourism activities.

Travellers seeking history and culture could also consider Varanasi or the Khajuraho Group of Monuments.

Smart travel matters more during monsoon season

According to The Indian Express, monsoon journeys require more preparation than regular weekend trips. Weather conditions can change quickly, particularly in mountainous regions.

Experts recommend monitoring real-time forecasts, carrying waterproof clothing, protecting electronics from moisture and allowing extra travel time. Those driving should be cautious on hill roads, where rain can reduce visibility and make surfaces slippery.

While the rains add a unique charm to travel, flexibility remains key. A well-planned itinerary with indoor alternatives can ensure the weekend remains enjoyable, even when the weather refuses to cooperate.
