The Kolkata Police has tightened enforcement of its dress and appearance regulations through a fresh directive issued by the Commissioner of Police. The order reiterates the importance of maintaining discipline, uniformity and professional standards among personnel while carrying out official duties.
Issued from the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar, the directive comes as a continuation of an earlier order released on May 24, 2026. The latest instruction emphasises that all personnel must report for duty in the prescribed uniform and ensure that it remains neat, clean and presentable at all times.
Uniform standards reinforced across all duties
According to the order, the requirement applies to all forms of official duty, including traffic management and field assignments. The directive specifically references the Police Regulations of Calcutta (PRC), 1968, making it clear that personnel are expected to comply with the existing provisions governing uniforms and appearance.
The move is aimed at ensuring a consistent and professional image across the force while personnel are engaged in public-facing responsibilities.

Black leather shoes made mandatory
The order also specifies the type of footwear that officers must wear while on duty. Personnel have been directed to use plain black leather shoes, including Oxford, Derby or Ammunition styles, as prescribed under the PRC, 1968.
Exceptions will only apply in situations where specialised units or specific assignments have been separately authorised to use alternative dress or footwear.
The directive seeks to remove ambiguity regarding acceptable footwear and standardise appearance across the organisation.
