The Australian team has announced its squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 on the morning of the New Year, aiming to surprise, just like they love to. Mitchel Marsh will lead the Aussie side and has the potential to rise as one of the most challenging sides of the contest. From power hitters to a dangerous bowling line-up, Maxwell, Pat Cummins and Travis Head are all set to pad up to head towards the next mission.
Australian chair of selectors George Bailey addressed the ICC that the panel had the luxury of focusing on a player group likely to handle conditions in India and Sri Lanka with aplomb, though several players come into the group under a fitness cloud.
He also added, “The T20 side has enjoyed a long run of recent success, which enabled the panel to choose a balance of players across the variety of conditions Sri Lanka and India may present. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are tracking well, and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup.

“This is a preliminary squad, so should changes need to be made, they will be made ahead of the support period.” He said.
Big names are coming back for the mega event
Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are all set to wear green colours after a long break. Pat Cummins, who recently made his comeback in the international side in the third test of the Ashes, was sent to rest following the match. He was named in the squad and will be there to lead the bowling line-up as he showed his greatness in 2023; what he brings to India this time will be interesting. Josh Hazlewood, who evolved as one of the perfect T20 bowler also made his comeback to the side after injury. Tim David, who recently got an injury in a BBL match, also made his way to the squad.

Performers get priority instead of reputation
Steve Smith, Spencer Johnson, along with Sean Abbott and backup wicketkeeper Josh Philippe, have missed the cut. Instead of the reputation, they went for the performers who delivered and came out handy. All-rounders are given priority to move forward, as Mitch Owen, Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly have retained their place. Kuhnemann and Xavier Bartlett are included to strengthen the bowling.
