Meet Lumumba Via: Congo super fan steals spotlight at African Cup of Nations

Others catch attention with placards or posters. This time, such a supporter has been found who proved himself different by surpassing all other supporters. He is not India's supporter, but Congo's.

The African Cup of Nations is currently underway. Congo is playing there. African football means the entertainment there is different from other countries or continents. Different from everything else is Congo supporter Michel Kuka Emboladinga. In Congo, he is known by the name Lumumba Via. He is a supporter of Congo's first Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba. Throughout Congo's matches in the African Cup of Nations, he stands in a specific posture. That posture is modelled after the bronze statue of Patrice Lumumba in Congo's capital, Kinshasa. That is, Kuka stands in the same way that Patrice Lumumba stands in the bronze statue.

However, he stands this way for the entire 90 minutes of the match. He wears a blazer. After the starting and ending whistles of the match, he becomes normal again. Many people laughed seeing him standing like this during the match against Senegal. After learning the details later, he is now Congo's super fan. Everyone takes selfies with him, supporters specially guard him and escort him out of the stadium.

Congo in the African Cup of Nations
