A social media reel featuring influencer RJ Princy Parikh and South Africa batter David Miller has sparked a storm online following India’s 76-run defeat in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
India fell short while chasing 188 after South Africa posted 187 for 7 in 20 overs in Ahmedabad. Miller led the charge with a 35-ball 63, anchoring the innings after early setbacks.
After the match, Parikh shared a video with Miller on her social media accounts, captioned, “David Miller! What a player.” In the clip, she is seen encircling the batter, while an on-screen caption reads, “I thought we were friends, David.” The reel quickly went viral.
‘Disturbing rape threats’ and body shaming
Soon after the video gained traction, Parikh alleged that she began receiving rape threats and abusive messages. She also said she was subjected to body shaming in the comments section.

Calling the messages disturbing, she said she was forced to delete the reel from her Facebook account due to the nature of the threats. The video, however, remains available on her Instagram profile. Parikh has stated that she will file a police complaint over the threats she received.
Pathan praises South Africa’s composure
While the online controversy unfolded, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan focused on the cricketing aspects of the match. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan praised South Africa’s calm approach under pressure.
He noted that India pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a strong spell and reduced the Proteas to three wickets down early. However, Miller’s experience shifted the momentum.
“The way South Africa lost three wickets, Bumrah was bowling brilliantly. But then Miller showed his experience. Having played six World Cups, it seemed he wanted to make his comeback in Ahmedabad in this big stadium after missing out in the World Cup final. And he did, with a half-century innings at exactly the moment the team needed him the most,” Pathan said.
Pathan also highlighted Dewald Brevis’ 45-run knock, saying his partnership with Miller brought stability at a crucial stage and played a key role in South Africa’s win.
