Australia women’s cricket captain Alyssa Healy has announced that she will retire from all forms of the game following the upcoming multi-format home series against India, scheduled for February–March 2026. The decision will bring the curtain down on a distinguished international career that began in 2010 and helped shape one of the most dominant eras in women’s cricket.
Healy, 35, confirmed that the India series will be her final assignment in national colours. While she will sit out the T20I leg of the tour, she is set to feature in the ODI matches and the one-off Test, formats she has prioritised for her farewell. Australia’s selectors have backed the move, citing workload management and the importance of allowing the senior player to conclude her career on her own terms.
A defining figure in Australia’s dominance
Widely regarded as one of the most influential wicketkeeper-batters in the women’s game, Healy has represented Australia in more than 160 T20 Internationals, over 120 One-Day Internationals, and multiple Test matches. Across formats, she has been instrumental in Australia’s sustained success, contributing both explosive batting at the top of the order and exceptional consistency behind the stumps.

Her career includes multiple World Cup triumphs and a string of bilateral series victories that underlined Australia’s supremacy on the global stage. Beyond statistics, Healy’s aggressive approach and tactical awareness redefined the role of the modern wicketkeeper-batter.
Leadership, reflection, and farewell
Appointed Australia captain in late 2023, Healy oversaw a highly successful leadership phase, highlighted by a historic Ashes clean sweep and strong performances in major tournaments. Her captaincy was marked by clarity, competitiveness, and an emphasis on maintaining high-performance standards within a winning group.
Explaining her decision to retire, Healy said that while her love for cricket remains strong, the competitive edge that sustained her through a long career has begun to wane. She described the upcoming India series as the right moment to step aside.
