Several Pakistani cricketers, including Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, are currently playing in Australia’s Big Bash League. Despite receiving opportunities with considerable attention, none of them has been able to make a strong impact so far. Teams that placed trust in them are reportedly disappointed, as the players have failed to capitalise on their chances.

This became evident once again during the Big Bash League match between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Monday, where Mohammad Rizwan retired out.
Rizwan retired out during Renegades’ innings
The incident took place during the Melbourne Renegades’ innings. Mohammad Rizwan came in to bat at number four and was at the crease during the 19th over. However, he failed to score at the required pace, managing only 26 runs off 23 balls.
In T20 cricket, such slow scoring in the death overs did not go down well with the team management. During the match, Renegades captain Will Sutherland was seen standing outside the boundary and gesturing for Rizwan to come off. After understanding the signal, Rizwan walked back towards the pavilion, and Sutherland came in to bat. Rizwan was subsequently listed as retired out.

Rizwan struggled to accelerate, hitting only two fours and one six during his innings. Supporters criticised his approach, particularly in the death overs. Following this performance, there have been calls from fans for the senior player to be dropped from the team.
Match result
Melbourne Renegades posted a total of 170 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Sydney Thunder were bowled out for 140. Melbourne Renegades won the match
