India's regular Test captain Shubman Gill finally spoke up about the team's 0-2 home series defeat to South Africa, labelling it a moment for reflection and resilience rather than despair. The series loss - India's second home whitewash in 12 months - has increased scrutiny of the team and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Gill, who missed the second Test in Guwahati due to a neck injury, had shared a calm yet defiant message on social media, indicating unity amidst criticism.

‘Storms forge steady hands, ’ says Gill

After the team's 408-run defeat in the Guwahati Test, Gill wrote on X: "Calm seas don’t teach you how to steer, it’s the storm that forges steady hands. We’ll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward - rising stronger."

India, chasing an improbable 549 on a deteriorating surface, folded for 140 as South Africa’s Simon Harmer completed a five-wicket haul. The defeat followed India’s loss in Kolkata, making it only South Africa’s second-ever Test series win on Indian soil.

Neck injury keeps Gill out of Guwahati test

Gill had a neck spasm on Day 2 of the opening Test in Kolkata and was admitted to a private hospital. He was discharged the next day but was ruled out of the second Test. The 25-year-old tried to prove his fitness and travelled with the squad to Guwahati, but could not take part in the practice sessions.

A PTI report said Gill later flew to Mumbai for further tests, including an MRI, to ascertain the nature of the injury. He received an injection to alleviate the symptoms and would require rest before starting the rehabilitation and skill work, a BCCI source said.

While Gill has already been ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa, selectors are hoping that he regains fitness in time for the T20Is. However, his availability remains subject to medical clearance.
