Social media erupted with speculation on Tuesday after rumours circulated claiming that Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal had fixed December 7 as their new wedding date. The report, however, has been firmly denied by Mandhana’s family.

The high-profile wedding, originally scheduled for November 23, had to be postponed after Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, fell ill on the morning of the ceremony and was taken to a hospital in Sangli. Palash Muchhal was also hospitalised after his own health deteriorated. Both have since been discharged, but no rescheduled date has been announced.

Speaking to Hindustan Times (HT), Smriti’s brother Shravan Mandhana dismissed the viral claims surrounding a December 7 ceremony. He said, “I have no idea about these rumours. As of now, it (the wedding) is still postponed,”

Shravan’s clarification came shortly after fans noticed that Smriti had removed all wedding-related posts from her Instagram account, although several casual photos with Palash remain.

In a separate interview with Hindustan Times, Palash Muchhal’s mother, Amita Muchhal, spoke about how the sudden turn of events affected both families.

“Smriti and Palash dono takleef mein hain… Palash dreamt of coming home with his bride. I had even planned a special welcome… Everything will be fine, shaadi bohot jaldi hogi,” she said to HT.

Amita said she had prepared a special welcome ceremony for Smriti at their home and remains hopeful the families will finalise a new date soon.
