India’s thrilling win over England in the T20 World Cup semi-final was not just about big runs or crucial wickets. It was also a night where sharp fielding made a huge difference. In a high-pressure game that India won by just seven runs, every saved run and every catch mattered.
Axar Patel stood out in the field with some brilliant efforts. One of the most memorable moments came when he pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Harry Brook. He was also involved in the relay catch that removed Will Jacks, showing the athleticism and alertness of the Indian fielding unit.

While Sanju Samson’s explosive innings and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight bowling spell grabbed headlines, India’s fielding played an equally crucial role in shaping the result. The victory at the Wankhede Stadium was built on collective effort, where batting, bowling and fielding all came together under pressure.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke praised India’s fielding performance and said it was one of the major reasons behind their victory. Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, he also credited former India captain Virat Kohli for raising the team’s fitness and fielding standards.
"The other thing that was defining and the difference between India winning and not England was the fielding. A couple of absolute screamers from India. They probably haven't gotten enough credit for their fielding over the years. I reckon Virat Kohli played a big part when he had a heavy focus on fitness and also transitioned into this Indian fielding. Those two catches were match-winners," he said on the 'Beyond23 Cricket Podcast'.
Clarke also shared his thoughts on the upcoming T20 World Cup final, where India will face New Zealand. Earlier in the tournament, India looked like clear favourites, but New Zealand’s impressive win over South Africa in the semi-final has made the contest more competitive.
"Before the semifinal against South Africa, if you say New Zealand are going to make the final against India, I think its black and white that India are favorites by a distance. After watching this game now, New Zealand beat South Africa, I reckon it is 50-50. But I am going with India to beat New Zealand," he said.

History and pressure in the final
Clarke shared, "The challenge for India will be that no team has won T20 World Cups back-to-back. They will know that. They will know they are playing in their home ground and they've been the best team in the competition so far and are expected to win. If they can release that, and play with the freedom they did against England, I still think they will win the game."
Clarke also pointed out that India will carry the pressure of history into the final as they aim to win consecutive T20 World Cups.
