Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is likely to take up his first coaching role in the Indian Premier League, with reports suggesting he will join Delhi Capitals as batting coach ahead of the 2027 season.
The move is expected to be part of a major restructuring at the franchise as JSW Group prepares to take control of team operations for the next two IPL seasons. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is also set to return as director of cricket and is believed to be keen on bringing his former teammate into the coaching setup.
Delhi Capitals plan a fresh start
Delhi Capitals follows a unique ownership model in which GMR Group and JSW Group alternate control of cricket operations every two years. With GMR's term ending after the 2026 season, JSW Group will oversee the franchise for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns.

As part of the transition, Ganguly is expected to resume a key leadership role within the franchise. Reports indicate that Yuvraj has been identified as a strong candidate for the batting coach position, which would mark his first official coaching assignment in the IPL.

The franchise hopes that Yuvraj's vast experience, leadership qualities and winning mindset can help strengthen the team's batting department and overall culture.
Changes follow disappointing IPL campaigns
The expected overhaul comes after the Delhi Capitals failed to reach the playoffs in both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Despite having a talented squad featuring KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav and captain Axar Patel, the team could not deliver consistent results.

The poor performances have led to questions over the current coaching structure, with reports suggesting that changes could be made ahead of the new cycle.
Ganguly's recent success with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 League has further strengthened confidence in the upcoming revamp. If the move is confirmed, Yuvraj's arrival would add one of Indian cricket's most respected figures to the Delhi Capitals support staff as the franchise looks to rebuild for IPL 2027.
