Aaron Ramsey has officially retired from professional football at the age of 35, confirming the decision through an emotional social media message. The former Arsenal FC midfielder had been without a club since leaving Mexican side Pumas UNAM in December. His brief stint in Mexico was disrupted by a hamstring injury, limiting him to just six appearances. After months of uncertainty surrounding his future, the Welshman has now decided to step away from the game.
Personal struggles and World Cup disappointment
Ramsey’s final phase in football was marked by both professional setbacks and personal challenges. He returned to Wales during a difficult period for his family after their pet dog went missing. Soon after, his contract with Pumas was terminated.
Adding to the disappointment, Ramsey was left out of Wales’ squad for the recent World Cup play-offs due to a lack of match fitness. The omission effectively ended his hopes of representing his country on the global stage once again, a moment that played a significant role in his decision to retire.
