Mumbai City FC confirmed that the City Football Group limited left out the club ownership, giving another big blow to the ISL. The Indian Super League has been going through severe uncertainty for the last few months and now this kind of blow to a big club has raised concerns. The club officers said in their official statement, “Mumbai City FC can confirm that City Football Group Limited (CFG) has divested its shareholding in the Club. The founding owners will assume full control of the organisation moving forward,”
Mumbai City FC has won two ISL cup titles in the 2020-2021 and 2022- 2023 seasons, they also won the league in the 2020-21 and 2023-24 seasons.

The club has also made their appearance in the AFC champions league for two times but remained unable to progress beyond the group stage.
Why did City Football Group leave the ownership?
Mumbai City FC released a statement on this matter and wrote, “ CFG has made this decision following a comprehensive commercial review and in light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League (ISL). This step reflects CFG’s disciplined and strategic approach — ensuring its focus remains on areas where it can have the greatest long-term impact.”

After the partaways the founding club owners are expecting full control in the organisation in future. The club is also owned by the Ranbir Kapoor and Sneha Parekh group.
Addressing their success, the club owners said, “ Since 2019, CFG and Mumbai City FC have reached new heights — winning two ISL League Winners’ Shields and two ISL Cup titles, strengthening the Club’s football operations, and making meaningful contributions to the growth of the game in India.”
Mumbai City FC is also one of them that gave a proposal to AIFF and it is expected that the issues will go away soon.
