A Coimbatore police constable has been accused of molesting a college-going young woman on a moving train. The incident occurred on Friday morning on the Chennai-Coimbatore train. Railway police have arrested the accused constable. Authorities have suspended the accused constable. This incident has also escalated political tensions.
Sexual harassment on a moving train
According to railway police sources, the young woman is a law student. She had boarded the Chennai-Coimbatore local train. A head constable from Coimbatore City Police was also on the same train. The law student alleged that the constable was touching her in the crowd. She also recorded a video of the entire incident on her camera. She then sent it to the RPF. She also filed a written complaint with the railway police.

Police arrested the accused as the train was about to enter Katpadi junction. Statements from the young woman and eyewitnesses have also been recorded. A Coimbatore police official said that Katpadi Railway Police is investigating and action will be taken in accordance with the law. He also informed that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused constable.
Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are set to be held at the beginning of the new year. Just before that, the opposition has intensified attacks on the ruling DMK-Congress alliance over the law and order situation. Targeting Chief Minister MK Stalin, the AIADMK-BJP alliance has stated that the Police themselves are openly molesting women. There is no security for women in the state.

Notably, AIADMK and BJP have already started discussions on seat sharing. BJP's election in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has gone to Chennai. On the other hand, the ruling alliance has also started discussions on seat sharing.
