'Minorities in Bangladesh are facing unspeakable persecution', Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Mujib, erupted with this allegation. She also targeted interim government chief Muhammad Yunus. Hasina delivered a special message on Christmas. Referring to last week's murder of a young man named Dipu Das in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said, 'Indescribable atrocities are being committed against non-Muslims. They have set a horrific precedent by burning religious minorities to death. I believe the people of Bangladesh will not allow this dark period to continue for much longer.'
Bangladesh was once a symbol of communal harmony
She criticised the Muhammad Yunus government for interfering with the freedom of speech of people of all religions. Hasina said, 'Bangladesh was once an example of communal harmony. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of a Bangladesh free from communal discrimination. To realize that dream, Bangladesh's Awami League had taken initiatives for the peaceful coexistence of people of all religions.' She also targeted Yunus, calling him an illegal usurper of power.

Sheikh Hasina's statement is being considered highly significant at a time when the Yunus government in Bangladesh is facing international condemnation over allegations of beating and burning to death Dipuchandra Das, a factory worker from Mymensingh. It may be noted that Bangladesh was engulfed in unrest during protests in July last year. The Sheikh Hasina government fell in August. She is currently in India.
