Lionel Messi sticks to Spanish in interviews—Here’s why he avoids English

Lionel Messi, playing in the US with Inter Miami, speaks Spanish publicly and is not fluent in English, while planning to stay near Camp Nou after retirement.

Whether it's football or cricket or any other sport in the world, the prevalent language in every field is English. This is because the highest number of people in the world know this language. That's why most stars in the global sports arena speak in English.

Among them is Lionel Messi, who speaks not English but Spanish. From the beginning to the end of his career, he has never spoken English publicly. Not only that, since 2023 he has been playing in America, where the only language is English, yet even there Messi speaks Spanish.

Messi spent the beginning of his career in Argentina, where the main language is Spanish. Messi then went to Barcelona, where Spanish is also the main language. As a result, Messi's beginning was spent in Spain. After that, even though he played two seasons at PSG, he didn't stop speaking Spanish there.

Recently, Messi spoke about his experience with the English language. In an interview, he said he is not fluent in English, prefers to conduct everything in Spanish, and feels that he can understand English well enough for others to understand him as well.

The upcoming World Cup will be Lionel Messi's last World Cup. He has already announced this. He may not be seen in Argentina's jersey after the World Cup.

On the other hand, Inter Miami has signed a contract with Messi until 2028. Recently, in an interview, Miami's owner David Beckham revealed that after retirement, Messi wants to stay around Barcelona's home ground Camp Nou. He has made this decision due to his love for his childhood club.
