Real Madrid ended 2025 on a high note with a 2-0 win against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Real Madrid found breakthroughs with the help of goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé. The goal by Mbappe helped him equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record of 59 goals in a calendar year.

Bellingham’s early breakthrough and Sevilla’s challenges

The opening goal came in the 38th minute of the match from Jude Bellingham. The goal resulted from a well-placed free kick from Rodrygo into the penalty area, which was headed into the goal by Bellingham. The header provided Madrid with a crucial lead before halftime. Sevilla began the game with an attacking intent and even had early opportunities, but were unable to convert chances despite spans of possession and threatening moments. Sevilla’s evening emerged to be even tougher when Marcão was sent off after two yellow cards in the 68th minute.

Mbappé’s record-matching strike and seasonal context

Madrid were awarded a penalty in the 86th minute of the game, after a foul on Rodrygo in the box. Mbappé stepped up and scored the penalty, which took his total tally for 2025 to 59 goals. This goal helped Mbappe level with the iconic 59-goals-in-a-calendar-year record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013 for the club. The French forward marked the achievement with a celebration of ‘Siuu’, acknowledging the landmark on his birthday.
