Mumbay FC’s rapid rise continues

Tiger founded Mumbay FC in July 2024 with the aim of supporting the growth of football in Mumbai.

Since then, the club has made steady progress. It currently competes in the Mumbai Football Association’s top division and has added experienced Indian footballers to guide a talented young squad.

The club enjoyed an impressive debut season by winning the Maharashtra State Club League Championship. It followed that success with a third-place finish in the I-League 3, earning qualification for the 2026 Durand Cup.

This year’s competition will mark Mumbay FC’s first appearance in Asia’s oldest football tournament.

Tough Group E challenge awaits

Mumbay FC has been placed in Group E alongside Shillong Lajong FC, Nongkseh Sports & Cultural Club and Langsning FC.

All of the club’s group-stage matches will be played in Shillong, where the team will look to make a strong impression in its first Durand Cup campaign.

Football dream continues for Tiger Shroff

Tiger’s connection with football goes far beyond celebrity exhibition matches. In October 2024, he made his professional football debut in the Mumbai Premier League after signing for Mumbay FC as the club’s marquee player. Wearing the No. 7 jersey, his appearance attracted widespread attention, with videos from the match gaining significant traction on social media.

Additonally, the actor has often spoken about his passion for the sport and his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking after his professional debut in 2024, Tiger said, “I always wanted to be a footballer. Football was a big part of my life in school. Representing my country was a dream I never got to fulfill.”

Another Bollywood connection at the Durand Cup

Tiger’s potential appearance adds another interesting storyline to this year’s Durand Cup.

Bollywood’s involvement in Indian football has continued to grow in recent years. John Abraham’s NorthEast United FC lifted the Durand Cup title in each of the last two editions.

Now, Tiger Shroff has the opportunity to feature on the field as Mumbay FC prepares for its first-ever campaign in one of India’s most prestigious football tournaments.
