Samsung is expanding the role of artificial intelligence beyond smartphones and smart homes; this time, to pet care.
The company has introduced a new AI-powered feature that can help pet owners detect possible health concerns in their dogs and cats using nothing more than a photograph. The feature is part of Samsung’s SmartThings Pet Care services.
According to Samsung, users can take pictures of specific areas such as their pet’s eyes, teeth or legs, and the AI system will analyse the images for signs of common medical conditions. The technology is designed to flag issues, including cataracts, dental disease and patellar luxation, a condition that affects the knee joint in many pets.

The feature was developed in collaboration with pet-health technology startup Lifet, which specialises in AI-based animal health analysis. Samsung says the tool is intended to help owners notice potential problems early and seek veterinary advice sooner when needed.
The pet health service forms part of Samsung’s larger push toward preventive care, where AI is used to identify possible concerns before they become serious. While the feature is not meant to replace professional veterinary diagnosis, it aims to provide pet owners with an accessible way to keep an eye on their animals’ wellbeing.

Expanding health tracking capabilities
Samsung also showcased a range of new health-focused features powered by AI. The company said Samsung Health is now offering deeper insights into sleep, fitness, nutrition, mental wellbeing and overall body health. Features like Heart Health Score, Vitals tracking and enhanced workout data are aimed at giving users a clearer picture of their day-to-day health and helping them make more informed lifestyle choices.
Working with Xealth, a digital health platform, the company is exploring ways to link Galaxy devices with healthcare services. The idea is to make it easier for doctors and patients to remain connected and keep track of important health information even when they are not in a hospital or clinic.
