Japan has just unveiled the "human washing machine," a solution that cleans and refreshes users in only 15 minutes. First unveiled at Expo 2025 in Osaka, the futuristic device, called the Mirai Ningen Sentakki ("Future Human Washing Machine"), was greeted by long queues of visitors looking to try the prototype. Now, it's hit the commercial market, available for hotels, retailers, and private buyers.

How does the machine work?

The Mirai Ningen Sentakki is a 2.3-metre-long automated bathing pod. Users lie inside, shut the see-through lid, and the machine performs a gentle, fully automated wash. The device uses high-pressure nozzles and microbubbles that release a fine mist to deeply clean skin, removing the need for manual scrubbing.

Inside the pod, users can experience:

High-pressure water jets and microbubbles that remove dirt and dead skin

Warm mist rinse system for thorough cleaning

Biometric sensors to adjust the cycle based on heart rate and comfort

Ambient music and visual projections aimed at relaxing the mind.

As per a report by the Daily Jagaran, Science Co. describes the machine as offering a unique combination of hygiene, wellness and relaxation. "Our president was inspired by that exhibit as a child. This new version doesn’t just wash the body, it aims to refresh the mind as well," said company spokeswoman Sachiko Maekura. "This version is designed to refresh both body and mind."

Early adopters and demos

As per the report, the Osaka hotel has already purchased the first commercial unit, which it will use to allow guests to have a futuristic bathing experience. Electronics retailer Yamada Denki has also signed on, looking to pull in visitors to select stores through the novelty.

Starting December 25, a demonstration model will be available to try at Labi’s Ikebukuro Main Branch in Tokyo, likely while wearing a bathing suit. Reservations may be required for the free trial sessions. Luxury Appeal and Limited Production Due to the product's niche appeal and production complexity, Science Co. will reportedly make only about 50 units. The retail price is around 60 million yen-about Rs 3 crore/USD 385,000- 400,000, excluding installation costs. Despite its price, interest is strong from luxury hotels, wellness centres, and international resorts, the report further states.
