The case was filed after an SBI official complained to the police, per news agency PTI.
The incident is said to have happened on July 20 at the SBI NRI branch in Adyar and was caught on the branch’s CCTV cameras. A video of the incident appeared on social media on Saturday.
The footage shows Kayalvizhi in a heated argument with the branch manager inside his office. At one point she seems to mimic his posture before slapping him on the face.
Another man in the room can be seen holding her arm, apparently trying to calm things down as the argument continues.

What caused the argument
Police say the SBI branch operates out of a commercial building that Kayalvizhi allegedly owns. A few days before the incident, she had visited the property, and an argument started between her and the branch manager over a lift in the building that was not working properly.
The disagreement continued inside the manager’s office, where Kayalvizhi allegedly slapped him on the cheek. She has now been booked on charges of assault and criminal intimidation. Police say the investigation is still going on.
Reminder of a similar SBI row over language
Last year, another SBI incident went viral, this time in Karnataka, after a customer got into an argument with a bank official and insisted she speak in Kannada. The official refused, saying she would not speak the local language, and this led to a lot of criticism online.

After the backlash, the official posted a video apologising, speaking in Kannada with help from her colleagues. She said, “If I have hurt anyone, I sincerely apologise,” and added that she would try to conduct her work in Kannada from then on.
The episode had also caught the attention of Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who later thanked SBI for acting quickly on the matter.
