Straying from the traditional gestures of gifting flowers, chocolates or surprise dinners on birthdays, a Bengaluru man's celebration for his girlfriend's 26th birthday is winning hearts on social media.

The man, Avik Bhattacharya, truly raised the bar when he shared a video of himself running 26 kilometre to celebrate his girlfriend's 26th birthday.

The video was shared on the joint account of Avik and his girlfriend Simran on Instagram. It opens with Simran saying that she herself wanted to run 26 kilometre on her 26th birthday but couldn't do it because she was really sick.

She goes on to say, "But this is what my boyfriend sends me in the morning. I don't know how to match this, guys. I really can't."

The 26-km run

The video then transitions to Avik who informs that since Simran couldn't run herself due to her health, he would be completing the task on her behalf.

He then starts running without earphones and calls it a "good idea to recollect my memories with her and pray for her".

During his run, Bhattacharya says that he is deliberately leaving out his earphones so he can be mindful and remember his happy memories with Simran. "Good physical health is the base for everything else," he shares while running.

Additionally, he shares that he and Simran are currently training for the Mumbai Marathon, which is in two-and-a-half-weeks' time, but that he has also taken the time to have this run dedicated to her.

Throughout the video, he keeps updating on the kilometres he has covered and on completing 19K, on a lighter note, he says, "At this point, I'm praying for my own health because I'm so tired. Just joking."

At "23K done", Avik jokingly says, "I wish Simran was only 23 so I would have to run only 23 kilometre! Not like in a creepy way... but so that the challenge would be only 23 km."

Another said, "Bro this is too wholesome, I cannot." Others called it "cute". One user wrote, "Bro setting standards yarrrr."

Apart from this, the comments section was full of love and teary-eyed emojis.
