On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited BMW World in Munich, Germany, and drew attention to how production is key to leading a nation's economic growth. The Congress leader went around the showroom, interacted with visitors, and tried his hand at some of the luxury vehicles on display.
“Good to see that the Indian flag is flying here,” said Gandhi as he was thrilled to see a 450 CC bike at the facility. He added furtively, “India needs to start producing. Production is the key to the success of any country. Our manufacturing is declining; it should actually be growing up.”

Focus on strengthening manufacturing
Sharing the video on Instagram, Gandhi wrote, " Had the chance to experience BMW’s world in Munich, Germany with a guided tour of BMW Welt and the BMW Plant - an incredible look at world-class manufacturing up close. A highlight was seeing TVS’s 450cc motorcycle, developed in partnership with BMW. Proud moment to see Indian engineering on display."
He further added, "Manufacturing is the backbone of strong economies. Sadly, in India, manufacturing is declining. For us to accelerate growth, we need to produce more - build meaningful manufacturing ecosystems, and create high-quality jobs at scale."

Engaging with the Indian diaspora
Reportedly, Rahul Gandhi was invited by the Progressive Alliance, a network of 117 progressive parties from around the world. He will meet with diaspora communities and German government officials during his five-day visit. At Berlin Airport, the IOC greeted him with warmth, kicking off a set of engagements across the continent with party leaders.
This visit is part of the broader effort by Congress to harden its global outreach and reach out to NRIs on important issues. On Wednesday, Gandhi is also likely to attend a major event of the IOC, during which he will interact with party presidents in Europe and deliberate on a strategy for expanding the party's presence internationally.
Controversy over frequent trips
As per a report by the Hindustan Times, the announcement of the Germany visit by Rahul Gandhi during the Winter Session of Parliament had drawn criticism from BJP leaders, who had questioned his seriousness about domestic political responsibilities.
