Some shopkeepers said that customers have been coming in continuously since the morning.

Since this festival is observed by women, they could be seen flocking to the markets to carefully select items for their fast. Meanwhile, preparations are also underway at houses for the festival.

Significance

Sakat Chaturthi is observed as a significant festival where devotees perform a traditional 'nirjala vrat', which means fasting without water or food. However, different people perform it in their own different ways and variations.

The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha. According to belief, on Magh Krishna Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha completed the circumambulation of his parents, Parvati and Shiva. It is because of this association that the day holds such value and is devoted to prayers for children.
