A viral video from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has triggered an online debate after a stray dog was seen roaming inside an airport lounge and eating leftover food from tables.

The clip, widely shared on X by the account @gharkekalesh, quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with users debating whether the incident reflected serious hygiene and security concerns or an overreaction amplified online.

The post described the incident as a “major lapse” in hygiene, security and stray animal control at one of India’s busiest international airports.

Viral clip sparks divided reactions

The video showed the dog casually moving around seating areas and scavenging food remains while passengers nearby appeared largely unbothered. Several users questioned how a stray animal managed to enter a restricted airport lounge area.

One user tagged the Airports Authority of India and referred to Supreme Court directives on stray animal management in public places, asking why stricter enforcement was not being implemented.

Others, however, dismissed the outrage as excessive.

“What a chill moment,” one social media user wrote, suggesting that people physically present at the airport appeared far less disturbed than reactions online.

Another user argued that the issue reflected larger conversations around public attitudes towards stray animals rather than hygiene alone.

The clip also triggered sarcastic meme reactions, with one post joking that the dog had received “VIP lounge access.” At the same time, some comments criticised stray animal supporters and demanded stricter enforcement around public sanitation and airport safety.

Hyderabad airport issues clarification

Following the online backlash, RGIA Hyderabad responded through X, saying the airport was already coordinating with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on stray dog management within airport premises.

According to the airport authorities, regular drives are being conducted and 21 stray dogs have been “addressed” since January 2026.

The airport also said waste disposal protocols had been strengthened, with instructions issued regarding covered-bin disposal and stricter vigilance by staff. Officials maintained that preventive measures were being followed to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Debate expands beyond the airport

The incident has since evolved into a broader online discussion about urban stray animal management, cleanliness standards and public behaviour in shared spaces.

While critics argued that airports require far stricter hygiene control because of high passenger movement and food areas, others pointed out that stray animals entering public spaces is not uncommon in Indian cities.

The viral clip has also reignited conversations around how quickly isolated incidents become flashpoints for larger debates on social media. For now, the Hyderabad airport video continues circulating widely online, drawing both outrage and humour in equal measure.
