A viral video from Meghalaya has sparked outrage online, where a tourist from Portugal is seen taking a plunge into a crystal-clear pool to pick up beer bottles and pieces of plastic littered by tourists. The video shot by local content creator Dappura Chyne went viral for all the wrong reasons, highlighting how irresponsible tourism continues to scar the region's pristine landscapes.

‘This is really sad’: Creator calls out the littering

Dappura spoke out in the video above, clearly disappointed, pointing to plastic packets and bottles that had settled at the bottom of the clear pool. Alongside him stands Bruno, a tourist from Portugal, who took matters into his own hands.

"So, guys. This is very sad," Dappura said in the video. "We are here in this beautiful, natural pool, and deep inside, we can see there are plastic packets and beer bottles. And right now, we have Bruno Sir from Portugal,” he added.

Moments later, the video shows Bruno jumping into the water and emerging with two beer bottles and several plastic wrappers, all thrown into a place admired for its natural beauty. He hands the collected trash to Dappura, who records the moment with a caption that simply reads- “Out of words.”

Viral clip sparks debate on responsible tourism

The clip sparked outrage across social media platforms as many users condemned irresponsible visitor behavior as "shameful" and "embarrassing."

One user even said, “Third class people will always stay third class.”

Another said, “It’s so good to see that our state is becoming more and more known, but the sad reality is that people are littering nature.”

“Thats truely very sad. When will we learn to be a responsible traveller/tourist…,” another user commented.

One user wrote, “0 civic sense its everywhere...shame on those people who ever did this..”

An user said, “I have been to this place and let me tell you, and you can only visit if you take a guide with you , now the question is how the bottles would have come here? Usually guide notifies you about not doing any such activities ! It’s done by tourist for sure , this is totally offbeat.”

The moment was used by several viewers to push for stronger awareness campaigns and stringent rules around ecotourism. Many wondered why it had to be a foreign tourist doing what should have been the responsibility of local visitors.
