After days of biting cold, Kolkata seem to be finally catching a break. The sharp chill that had settled over the city in recent days has eased slightly, bringing people a brief sense of relief. According to the weather department, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 12.1 degrees Celsius on Friday. Although this marks a marginal rise, the minimum temperature remains 1.8 degrees Celsius below normal. The maximum temperature stood at 21.9 degrees Celsius, which is 2.8 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.
Despite this slight moderation in temperatures, the spell of cold weather is not over yet. The weather department has indicated that cold conditions will persist across the state for the next four to five days. Fog is also expected to remain a dominant factor, with several districts likely to experience fog during the early morning and dawn hours.

What will South Bengal’s weather be like?
Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal will continue to experience cold conditions during the early morning and dawn. As the day progresses, the intensity of the cold is expected to reduce slightly. Fog is likely to dissipate during the daytime, giving way to clear skies and bright sunshine.
However, in parts of Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Nadia, cold winds may make the weather feel harsher than what temperature readings alone suggest.
The weather department has issued fog alerts for a total of 11 districts across the state. Of these, dense fog warnings are in place for seven districts in South Bengal and four districts in North Bengal. Reduced visibility is likely in some areas during the early morning hours.

What will North Bengal’s weather be like?
Cold conditions will remain pronounced in North Bengal over the next few days. The intensity of winter is expected to be relatively lower in Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur. Dense fog warnings have been issued for four northern districts, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur.
What will Kolkata’s weather be like?
Night temperatures in Kolkata have risen slightly compared to recent days. On Friday, the minimum temperature hovered around 12 degrees Celsius. No major change in temperature is expected in the coming days, with minimum temperatures likely to remain between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius.
Morning fog will persist, but skies are expected to clear as the day advances. According to the weather department, there is no chance of rainfall in the city over the next few days.

What will the weather be like in other parts of the country?
A low-pressure system is currently positioned over the southeast and adjoining Indian Ocean and is gradually moving towards the southwest Bay of Bengal. While this system will not directly affect Bengal, rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Meanwhile, cold wave warnings have been issued for several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan.
