Truck rams Adhir Chowdhury convoy vehicle in Murshidabad, no injuries reported

Former Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury escaped unhurt after a truck hit his escort vehicle in Murshidabad; no injuries were reported.

Congress candidate from Berhampore and former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury narrowly escaped after his escort vehicle met with an accident on Wednesday evening in Murshidabad district. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The accident took place on the Berhampore-Kandi state highway near Hatpara under Kandi police station limits while Chowdhury was returning from a roadshow.

Truck hits escort vehicle

According to police sources, the incident occurred when a sand-laden truck heading towards Berhampore lost control and rammed into the rear of Chowdhury's escort vehicle. The impact caused severe damage to the back portion of the vehicle.

The collision was strong enough to shatter the front windshields of the truck. Chowdhury, who was part of the convoy, escaped unhurt. Security personnel present in the escort vehicle also did not sustain any injuries.

Police from Kandi station reached the spot soon after the incident and detained the truck involved in the accident.

No injuries, probe underway

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported despite the intensity of the crash. The situation was brought under control quickly, and traffic movement was restored on the highway.

Reacting to the incident, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "It was an accident. All the security personnel in the vehicle are safe. It could have been a major accident, but we narrowly escaped."

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The incident comes amid ongoing election campaigning in the region, with political leaders frequently travelling across constituencies.
