Even as Trinamool Congress heavyweights were swept away in the saffron surge, several relatively low-profile leaders held on to their strongholds. Relying on organisational strength and local influence, they helped the party retain crucial pockets across districts.

As results for 293 Assembly seats emerged, many senior Trinamool leaders faltered under the BJP’s aggressive push. The party’s base weakened in key areas, and even Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced defeat. However, in district-level contests, lesser-known candidates ensured the party remained competitive.

Key winners who held their ground:

In Sitai (Cooch Behar), Sangita Roy retained the seat by a narrow margin of around 2,700 votes despite a decline in Trinamool’s vote share in North Bengal. In Chopra (Uttar Dinajpur), Hamidul Rahaman secured his fourth consecutive victory, defeating the BJP by nearly 70,000 votes in what was once a Congress-Left stronghold.

Kanaiyalal Agarwal won Islampur (Uttar Dinajpur) by over 40,000 votes against BJP’s Chiranjit Roy, overcoming internal factional rivalry. In Chakulia, Azad Minhajul Arfin retained the seat for a second consecutive term with a margin of 28,011 votes.
