Trinamool's former MP Shantanu Sen had already received relief in court. Now the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland, has put an end to the controversy over his foreign degree. Dispelling the State Medical Council's doubts, they informed the council via email, keeping Shantanu in 'CC', that the prestigious FRCP degree diploma given to Shantanu in 2019 is completely genuine and valid. Naturally, Shantanu was elated upon receiving this letter. However, the council authorities have remained tight-lipped.

Although Shantanu mentioned the FRCP credential received from Glasgow in 2019 on his prescription pad, he did not update that credential with the Medical Council. On this charge, the council suspended Shantanu's registration for two years on July 3. As a result, he could neither practice medicine for two years nor write 'Doctor' before his name. The council also questioned the validity of that foreign credential. When Shantanu approached the Calcutta High Court challenging that decision, Justice Amrita Sinha dismissed the Medical Council's order against Shantanu, citing procedural errors. At the same time, however, a letter was sent to the Glasgow Royal College authorities for investigation on behalf of the council.
Royal College’s certificate confirms FRCP awarded in 2019
On Wednesday, Karen McEwan, Membership Support Officer of the Royal College, responded to that letter. She attached a certificate signed by the college's Registrar Abhay Rana on December 23. The certificate states that having satisfied the examiners, Shantanu Sen was awarded the FRCP credential by the Royal College of Glasgow on February 22, 2019, and by virtue of that, he can certainly be considered an active fellow of this Royal College. Upon receiving this email, this suspended doctor-leader of Trinamool did not hide his anger at the Medical Council's position.

Shantanu has vented his anger against the council's president, Trinamool's doctor-MLA Sudipta Roy. Shantanu said, "What State Medical Council President Sudipta Roy tried to prove false by misusing power and cancelled my medical registration for two years, and I had to go to court to get justice, today the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has given a fitting reply to that." He reminded, "When the government is doing such good work in the health sector, it is not desirable for someone sitting in such an important position to do such anti-doctor work." However, no reaction from Sudipta Roy was available in this regard.
