The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday reached Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee's residence in Kolkata's Kalighat area in connection with an investigation linked to a complaint over remarks he made during an election campaign.

According to sources, CID officials arrived at the residence during the afternoon to serve a notice in the case. However, Abhishek was reportedly not present at home when the team reached the location.

Notice could not be served

Sources said Abhishek Banerjee had left the residence shortly before the CID team arrived. Investigators were reportedly informed that he had gone to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence for a meeting.

As a result, the notice could not be delivered on Friday. CID sources indicated that officials are waiting to complete the process and that Abhishek may be called for questioning next week.

Lawyers were also seen arriving at the residence around the same time. They told reporters that they were not yet aware of the details of the matter and would comment only after gathering more information.

Case originated from complaint over poll campaign statement

The case stems from a complaint filed over a statement made by Abhishek Banerjee during election campaigning.

Sources said a complaint was initially lodged at the Baguiati Police Station regarding the remark. The matter was subsequently investigated by the Cyber Crime Police Station under the Bidhannagar Commissionerate before being transferred to the CID.

Friday's visit was part of the investigation into that complaint.
