Allegations arose in Durgapur's special sessions court that the victim's mobile phone was examined by someone who is not a cyber forensic expert. During testimony on Thursday in the gang rape case of a medical student, this claim was made by Shekhar Kundu, the lawyer for the arrested student Wasif Ali, a classmate of the victim. It was learned that on the day of the incident, October 10, the victim had chatted on WhatsApp with many people. Wasif's name is also on that list.

On this day at noon, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Afzal Raja from the cyber crime division of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate came to testify in Judge Lokesh Pathak's court. In court, he said, "The day after the gang rape incident, on October 11, the investigating officer (IO) of this case, Officer Gautam Biswas of New Township police station, came to their office. He gave a requisition to retrieve the WhatsApp chat from that student's mobile phone. After receiving that responsibility from the office, I went to the New Township police station on October 21 and met with Gautam Biswas. The student's mobile phone was given to me in court before the second judicial magistrate. The IO gave me the mobile's lock pattern and WhatsApp PIN on paper."
