Kolkata police have ultimately solved the case of a serial taxi thief and arrested Rajkumar Sardar, who had been stealing and dropping off cabs in the Bhowanipore locality.

Between November 10 and 16, Bhowanipore Police Station was staring at an unusual spike in taxi thefts, with three cases filed within just six days. Each FIR, registered under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pointed to the same pattern: taxis disappearing from familiar South Kolkata streets.

Two of those vehicles were found abandoned the very next day at Manohorpukur Road and Mahim Halder Road. Investigators quickly began combing CCTV footage across neighbourhood lanes and quietly activated their network of local informers.

Who is Rajkumar Sardar, aka Hasa?

On November 19, the officers caught a young man loitering around the Kali Temple Road. He claimed to be a 23-year-old of Godabar village ( Joynagar, South 24-Parganas ), known as Rajkumar Sardar alias Raju alias Hasa and now residing in Kolkata on 31/1 Kali Temple Road.

During interrogation, Rajkumar reportedly made a series of admissions specifically about the third taxi theft. Acting on his statement, Kolkata Police at around 1.50 am arrested him and recovered the stolen taxi, a WB04F4031, parked in front of 32 Gurupada Halder Street.
