Sonarpur tragedy: Fake nude photo circulation leads to teen girl’s death

A secondary school student in Sonarpur allegedly took her life after a fake nude photo of her was circulated online, prompting a police investigation.

On Thursday evening, a student of a secondary school was found hanging at her home in Sonarpur. After not getting any response for a long time, the family members started searching for her and found her hanging. The family claimed that the student had been harassed for a long time. Recently, they claimed, a fake nude photo of her was circulated on social media, and she could not bear the mental trauma. The Sonarpur police have initiated a probe in this regard.

The student had been staying at her maternal uncle's house in Sonarpur. At the time of the incident in the evening, she was at home except for her. According to the family, she was alone since returning from school when the tragedy took place. Later, a relative discovered the incident and rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. A complaint has been filed at the Sonarpur police station.

A family member said that on Thursday, for quite some time, they did not find her. Later, she was found hanging at home. The family claims a young man in the neighbourhood was repeatedly harassing her. The same young man reportedly has another girlfriend. Recently, he spread a nude photo of the student on the net. The family says that with the help of technology, the photo was fabricated and spread, and from learning about it, severe mental distress led the student to make such a decision.
