Toddler drowns in water body outside home in Gopalnagar area

A one-and-a-half-year-old child drowned after accidentally falling into a water body outside his home in the Gopalnagar area of Nadia. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and begun an investigation.

A one-and-a-half-year-old child. Still cannot walk properly. A tragic end by drowning. The lifeless body was recovered from a water body in front of the house. The child's name was Sanju Sardar. The incident occurred in Charabagi tribal neighborhood under Gopalnagar police station.

Locals said the mother had left Sanju with his sister and gone out for bank work. Sanju walks unsteadily on tottering feet. In the same manner, he went near the water body beside the house. He fell into the water. Several children in the area saw this and started screaming. Hearing this, people from Sanju's house came running. However, by then he had already drowned.

Later, when he was pulled out from the water, there was no life left in the small body. Returning from the bank and seeing this scene, mother Rinku Sardar broke down in tears. Father Subrata Sardar is a mason. He too cannot accept his son's death.

Gopalnagar police station recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Police said that preliminarily, this is being considered a death by drowning. However, a comprehensive investigation into the incident has begun.
