Battery-powered vehicles have now been launched in Darjeeling for senior citizens.

Senior citizens will get this battery vehicle service to visit the historic Mahakal Temple in Darjeeling. On Thursday, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration or GTA Chief Anit Thapa inaugurated this battery-powered vehicle at a ceremony in Darjeeling Mall.

The Mahakal Temple adjacent to Darjeeling Mall is very ancient. Many people visit the Mahakal Temple when they go to Darjeeling for sightseeing. But this temple is quite high up on the hill. As a result, elderly people face problems climbing up.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also visited the Mahakal Temple.

She had earlier suggested that EV, i.e., electric vehicle facilities, should be arranged for senior tourists. This way, they too would be able to enjoy hill tourism in a more beautiful manner. At the same time, visiting the ancient Mahakal Temple would also become much easier for them.

The Melo-Tea Fest is ongoing in Darjeeling. There itself, GTA Chief Anit Thapa handed over this vehicle to the Mahakal Dham Temple Committee. The responsibility of maintaining this vehicle lies with the Mahakal Dham Temple Committee.
