The CBI has taken Abdul Alim Molla into its custody in connection with the attempted murder of CBI witness Bholanath Ghosh, who was allegedly run over by a car in Sandeshkhali in a case linked to Sheikh Shahjahan.
On Wednesday, the Basirhat Sub-divisional Court heard arguments from lawyers representing both sides during the hearing on the CBI’s custody plea. After the hearing, the court ordered four days of CBI custody for the accused. Following the court order, CBI officials left for Kolkata with Abdul Alim Molla in the evening.

The case dates back to December 10, when Bholanath Ghosh’s younger son and his car driver were killed in a car accident at Boyarmari in Sandeshkhali. Based on a complaint filed by Bholanath Ghosh, Nazat police station officials launched an investigation and arrested several accused, including the alleged main conspirator, Abdul Alim Molla.
A few days ago, the CBI sought custody of Abdul Alim to interrogate him in connection with the January 5, 2024, attack on ED officials at Sheikh Shahjahan’s residence. On Wednesday, CBI lawyers and officials appeared before the Basirhat Sub-divisional Court, and Abdul Alim was produced from jail.

Notably, the ED officials were attacked by Shahjahan’s supporters when they went to his house in Sarbearia to investigate a ration corruption case. The probe was later handed over to the CBI. Notices were issued multiple times to Abdul Alim Molla at his residence, but he did not respond.
According to CBI sources, Abdul Alim Molla was involved in the January 5, 2024, attack on ED officials. After Sheikh Shahjahan’s arrest, he was allegedly overseeing Shahjahan’s operations in Sarbearia.
