With the assembly elections approaching, the West Midnapore district police has undergone a significant reshuffle. On Friday (January 9), newly appointed Superintendent of Police Polashchandra Dhali issued transfer orders for 41 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) across multiple police stations in the district. The district administration described the exercise as part of routine administrative transfers.
According to the official directive, the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of Keshpur, Anandpur, Gurgurripal and Midnapore Women’s Police Station have been transferred. Several outposts and police stations across Kharagpur, Ghatal, Garbeta, Debra, Daspur and Chandrakona areas have also been affected.

Bhaskar Debnath, previously posted at Kharagpur Rural Police Station, has been appointed the new OC of Gurgurripal Police Station. Sudipkumar Kar, also from Kharagpur Rural, has taken charge as the new OC of Keshpur Police Station. Gobardhan Sahu, earlier with Kharagpur Town Police Station, has been made the OC of Anandpur Police Station. Former Anandpur OC Pradip Singh has been transferred to Kharagpur Rural Police Station.
Changes across women’s police stations and outposts
At the Midnapore Women’s Police Station (AWPS), Lady Sub-Inspector Sayantani Mandal Chattopadhyay has been transferred to Kharagpur Women’s Police Station. LSI Sampurna Das has been moved from Ghatal Police Station to take charge as the new OC of Midnapore Women’s Police Station.
Several postings involve outposts and police stations under Chandrakona, Garbeta and Sabang circles. SI Jahangir Alam has been appointed in charge of Khirpai outpost under Chandrakona Police Station, while SI Prashanta Kumar Satapathy has been transferred from Khirpai outpost to Shalbani Police Station.

Multiple officers have been shifted to and from Kharagpur Town, Kharagpur Local and Kharagpur Rural police stations. These include postings of Amaresh Biswas, Bikash Mahato, Suman Biswas, Abhijit Ghosh, Sanat Kumar Bhuiya, Ashok Kumar Ghosh, Rajib Kumar Bera, Soumen Ghosh, Saheb Pramanik, Magaram Chattopadhyay and Dipak Naskar, among others.
The directive states that all transferred officers must hand over their current responsibilities and report to their new postings by January 15.
This large-scale reshuffle comes less than two months after SP Polashchandra Dhali assumed charge of the district on November 27.
