The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued a strict advisory asking Indian nationals in Iran to avoid attempting to cross the country’s land borders without first coordinating with embassy officials. The mission warned that travellers attempting to leave Iran independently by land could face immigration issues and logistical complications during their journey.

“All Indian nationals currently in Iran are strictly advised not to approach or attempt to cross any land border of Iran for onward travel without prior and explicit coordination with the Embassy of India,” the advisory said.

Embassy cautions against independent border crossings

According to the advisory, Indian citizens who attempt to leave Iran through land borders without informing the embassy may encounter serious difficulties. These could include problems related to documentation, entry permissions into neighbouring countries, or unexpected restrictions at border checkpoints. The embassy emphasised that travelling without prior coordination could create complex situations that may be difficult to resolve later.

Risk of immigration and logistical complications

The mission also warned that travellers heading toward border crossings without embassy guidance are highly likely to face immigration-related issues. Different checkpoints may have varying rules, and travel may require coordination between multiple countries. Officials stressed that unplanned travel could lead to delays, entry restrictions, or other complications that may disrupt onward journeys.
