Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing renewed criticism from royal insiders following their attendance at birthday celebration in California, with sources describing the coupleâs lifestyle choices as âtackyâ and incompatible with the monarchyâs traditions.
According to Page Six, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended reality television personality Kris Jennerâs 70th birthday celebration in November 2025. The event was hosted by Jeff Bezos and Lauren SĂĄnchez Bezos, and drew several prominent Hollywood figures.
A palace source was quoted as saying, âItâs so tacky. It truly shows that Harry is so far removed from the rest of the family.â The insider added that the âpure ostentatiousnessâ of the event stood in stark contrast to the public-service-focused path being pursued by Prince William.

Remembrance Day timing fuels backlash
The criticism intensified because the party coincided with Remembrance Day commemorations in the United Kingdom. The annual observance honours fallen soldiers, with members of the royal family traditionally participating in solemn ceremonies and wearing red poppies as a mark of respect.
Prince Harry, himself a military veteran, was photographed wearing a poppy while attending the celebration, a move that reportedly angered royal insiders. One source told NewsNation that the choice was âunconscionable,â adding that the day was meant to honour war heroes, not socialise at lavish events. Meghan Markle was also criticised for being seen without a poppy, which some royal watchers interpreted as a refusal to observe the occasion.

Sources cited by Us Weekly said the episode has further strained Prince Harryâs relationship with his brother, with Prince William feeling increasingly burdened by royal duty. âHarry and Meghan are highlighting a life of fun and lightness while Williamâs is dominated by service,â one insider said.
Neither Meghan Markle nor Prince Harry has commented publicly on the reports.
