Slain conservative influencer Charlie Kirk's widow Erika Kirk has said that he finds it "ironic" that a large number of women supported Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani in his bid to be elected as the mayor of New York City. The Turning Point USA chief said that many young women in NYC are substituting traditional families with the government, Hindustan Times reported.

"Career-driven women in New York almost look to the government as a form of replacement for certain things, for relationship wise," Erika said at the NYT’s 2025 DealBook Summit, when asked about how Mamdani captivated so many women voters.

"What I don't want to happen is young women in the city look at the government as a solution to put off having a family or a marriage," Erika said.

She added that women should not be dependent on the government to provide them support, as that could supersede the support provided by partners in a marriage. "Instead of being united with a husband where you can support your husband and he can support you," Erika said. She further said, "So ironic and so interesting that a heavy percentage of individuals who voted for him were female."

Zohran's victory in NYC

Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani beat independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa to become the first Muslim mayor of New York City in early November. Being a Muslim candidate in New York, the city that was witness to 9/11, Mamdani allegedly faced constant Islamophobia during his campaign for the contest he ultimately won.
