Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, has been arrested on suspicion of killing his parents at their Brentwood home, Los Angeles police said. Authorities said Reiner is being held without bail as prosecutors prepare to review the case for formal charges.
Police sources told CNN that Nick Reiner was seen arguing with his father during a holiday gathering at comedian Conan O’Brien’s residence on Saturday, just a day before the couple were found dead. Their bodies were discovered on Sunday by their daughter at their Los Angeles home.

Law enforcement officials have not disclosed a motive, and investigators said the case would be handed over to prosecutors on Tuesday. No statement has been issued so far by representatives of the Reiner family, and it is not known whether Nick Reiner has legal counsel.
Troubled relationship and history of addiction
Nick Reiner is the second of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s three children. He has spoken publicly about a long struggle with substance abuse that began during his teenage years. According to Parade, he entered rehabilitation around the age of 15 and had undergone multiple treatment programmes by his early twenties.
His difficult relationship with his father and his battle with addiction were explored in the semi-autobiographical 2016 film Being Charlie, which Rob Reiner directed. The film drew from Nick Reiner’s real-life experiences, including repeated relapses and periods of homelessness.
In a 2016 interview cited by People, Nick Reiner recalled spending nights and weeks on the streets in several US states after refusing to return to rehab. “If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programmes they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,” he said at the time.
