Amid mounting tensions in the United States after President Donald Trump's actions in Venezuela and his plans to "buy" Greenland, his inner circle has reportedly relocated to US military bases in Washington DC area due to heightened security reasons.

Who has shifted?

Among those who have relocated are Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, deputy chief of staff and Homeland Security advisor Stephen Miller and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Late in 2025, Noeam relocated into housing at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling which is traditionally reserved for Coast Guard Commandant after her private apartment address was publicly revealed. For this apartment, Noem reportedly pays a fair market value rent, according to 'knewz'.

Hegseth and Rubio reside on Generals' Row at Fort McNair. Reportedly, Rubio lives there alone and his family resides in Florida.

On October 30, 2025, The Atlantic reported that Rubio spent an evening assembling furniture that was delivered to the house that day.

After bearing the brunt of massive protests at his private home in Arlington County in Virginia, Miller shifted to a military base near DC with his family. Miller and his wife Katie, a podcaster, listed their private home for $3.75 million in October 2025.

Denied request

Among those who were denied to move was Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard due to lack of space at Fort McNair.

Due to these relocations, the availability of housing which is typically reserved for top military officials has been strained.

No record of many others...

"There is no record of so many political appointees living on military installations. The shift adds to the blurring of traditional boundaries between the civilian and military worlds," The Atlantic reported in 2025.

The Atlantic also mentioned another senior White House official but did not name them "because of security concerns related to a specific foreign threat." This person reportedly left their private residence after the murder of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk in September 2025.
