A US congressional delegation, comprising both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, will be visiting the Danish capital of Copenhagen in a show of unity between the United States and Denmark. This comes amid US President Donald Trump's calls to annex Greenland as a part of US territory, PTI reported.
US delegation to visit Denmark
The delegation will consist of nine members and will be led by Senator Chris Coons (D-DE). Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) will also be a part of the team.
The Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate has informed in a statement, "The delegation will be in Copenhagen Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17. Some members of the delegation will continue on to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland."
The congressional delegation is scheduled to meet with Danish and Greenlandic government and business leaders, the statement informed. It further added, "The trip will highlight bipartisan support for our allies in the Kingdom of Denmark and discuss how to deepen this partnership in line with our shared principles of sovereignty and self-determination, and in the face of growing challenges around the world, especially bolstering Arctic security and promoting stronger trade relations between the two countries."

Trump ready to strike deal
Notably, on Monday, China said that the United States should refrain from using other nations as an excuse in order to pursue its interests in Greenland, PTI reported. This statement came from a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry during a regular briefing.
US President Donald Trump has said that in order to prevent Russia or China from taking over Greenland, he is ready to strike a deal to acquire the semi-autonomous region of Denmark. Notably, Denmark is a NATO ally.

The US administration is reportedly mulling an array of options to take over the island, including military force. This has led to a rise in tensions between Washington, Copenhagen, and Nuuk.
