US authorises departure of non-emergency staff from Israel amid safety concerns

The US embassy in Israel announced on Friday that it would allow non-emergency personnel and their family members to leave the country because of safety risks. In a statement on its website, the embassy in Jerusalem advised those who wanted to leave to do so while flights were still available.

"On February 27, 2026, the Department of State authorized the departure of non-emergency US government personnel and their family members from Mission Israel due to safety risks," the statement on the embassy website said.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrives in Mumbai

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated that the approval comes with "strict security conditions". These conditions require that military and other sensitive locations be blurred. Additionally, the longitude and latitude coordinates for South Korean territory must be restricted on products like Google Maps and Google Earth. "We welcome today's decision and look forward to our ongoing collaboration with local officials to bring a fully functioning Google Maps to Korea," Google Vice President Cris Turner said in a statement, reported Hindustan Times.

India-Nepal border shut for 3 days as Nepal prepares for general elections

The India-Nepal border will be closed from midnight on March 2 until March 5 due to Nepal’s general elections scheduled for March 5, officials said on Friday. Sudhir Sharma, who oversees the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Rupaidiha in Bahraich, told news agency PTI that Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs sent an official notice on February 26 about the closure. The letter stated that all border outposts in Banke district, which borders India, will be shut from 12 am on the night of March 2 into March 3 until 12 am on March 5. This measure aims to ensure the election process is carried out in a free and fair manner.
