Brazil is in a state of shock after a second horrific crash caused the death of a woman within days of another bungee-jumping incident that had caught world attention.
Rosemary Suzart Garcia, 59, has been found dead after falling some 100 feet from a cliff on a hike in Grutas do Spar in the municipality of Maricá, Rio de Janeiro state.
It occurred on Sunday, the day after the death of 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas when she was said to have been pushed off a bridge during her bungee jumping without a safety rope.

What actually happened
According to GloboNews, Garcia was part of a hiking group exploring the scenic Grutas do Spar area when she reportedly lost her balance near a cliffside overlook. According to witnesses, she was wearing safety gear and was trying to apply insect repellent when this incident happened.
A witness told the group's guide made a desperate attempt to save her by grabbing her arm. However, the guide nearly fell over the edge as well and was unable to prevent the fatal plunge.
Emergency responders later recovered Garcia's body from the difficult terrain. Authorities have launched an investigation regarding this incident.
Earlier bungee jump tragedy
The hiking death came amid nationwide shock over the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a 21-year-old student who died after falling around 130 feet during an unauthorised rope-jumping event in São Paulo state.
According to The Indian Express, staff failed to attach the primary safety rope before she was launched from the bridge. Several people connected to the operation have since been detained and charged as investigations continue.
These two fatal accidents have renewed scrutiny of safety practices in Brazil's adventure tourism sector.
