Emergency alerts rang out across Abu Dhabi on Saturday afternoon as explosions were reported and authorities warned residents of potential missile threats. Phones lit up with messages urging people to take shelter immediately, avoid windows and doors, and move away from open areas, NDTV reported.
The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence later confirmed that the country had come under what it called a "blatant attack" by Iranian ballistic missiles. According to officials, UAE air defence systems intercepted a number of the incoming missiles. However, one person of Asian nationality was killed after shrapnel fell into a residential area, as per NDTV.
Abu Dhabi described the attack as a "dangerous escalation" and said it reserves the right to respond.

Airspace partially closed
In response to the situation, the United Arab Emirates temporarily and partially closed its airspace as a precaution. The move came amid heightened regional tensions linked to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran.
Key strategic locations in the UAE have drawn attention in recent years. The Al Dhafra Air Base, located south of the capital and shared with the UAE Air Force, is an important US military hub. It has supported missions against the Islamic State and other regional operations. Meanwhile, Dubai's Jebel Ali Port is the US Navy's largest port of call in the Middle East and regularly hosts American warships, NDTV reported.
