American mediation has not been beneficial as each time, peace talks between Ukraine and Russia have fallen through. This time, US President Donald Trump has sent a 28-point draft plan to Kyiv to stop the war between the two sides. Along with this, he has indicated that this 28-point plan is not his final decision, and there is scope for discussion.
Ukraine's Western supporters, including leaders from Europe, Canada and Japan, have said that while Trump's 28-point plan has some good aspects, they have serious objections to two issues. The proposal states that Ukraine will have to let go of some of its territories (including Donetsk, Luhansk and several other areas) to Russia. However, Ukraine is unwilling to accept this condition. A proposal has been made to reduce Ukraine's military strength. Western supporters believe this could push Ukraine into facing attacks again in the future. Not only that, the proposal also states that Ukraine will not be able to join the NATO military alliance in the future.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that America is pressuring them to accept this plan. Zelensky has said that Ukraine is now facing the most difficult time in its history. Zelensky has said he will discuss this matter but will also try to maintain the country's honour and independence.
For this purpose, an emergency meeting has been called in Geneva on Sunday. Senior officials from America, Britain, France, Germany and Ukraine will participate in that meeting. Ukraine has to inform them of their decision by the 27th of this month.
