Blast near Savyolovsky railway station
Russia’s Interior Ministry said in a Telegram statement that the explosion took place just before dawn at Savyolovsky train station square. The station is one of the major railway junctions in the Russian capital, leading to widespread panic in the area.
According to reports, a traffic police vehicle had stopped near the station during routine patrol in Moscow’s northern suburban zone. The attacker approached the vehicle and detonated the explosive device. He died on the spot. One police officer was killed, while two others sustained injuries.
Similar attack last year
Officials noted that a similar attack occurred in southern Moscow in December last year. In that incident, a suspicious individual was seen near a police vehicle moments before an explosion killed two officers.
